Our Top 10 Easy Backlinks Your Australian Business Must Have in 2020

We’re not going to start telling you about what backlinks are and how important they are for your business Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

You already know all of that, otherwise you likely wouldn’t be here reading this.

Check out our 2024 Backlink list here!

Everybody can use more backlinks. When we audit businesses as part of our SEO audits for prospective clients, we come across so many amateur websites with virtually no backlink profile.

That’s great news if you’re in the Australian market looking to compete.

We have no doubt you’ve heard of people who’ve been conned by an SEO provider, but when it’s done right, it works.

Search Engine Optimization is not black magic but SEO is very important.

So don’t be shy if all of this backlink building seems tedious, talk to us about your local SEO campaign.

Ready to build your own backlinks?

Why Do You Want Backlinks?

You’re most likely after more traffic to your website and backlinks can give you just that.

However, what might be even more attractive to you as a local business might be phone calls or request for directions on Google Maps.

At the end of the day, you’re most likely just wanting to drive in more business and getting yourself on the Google Local Map Results or “Map Pack” is where most local keyword searches including those “near me” searches are going to go.

This is particularly true for mobile phone users who are very likely to call you. They’re only a tap away.

The Two Types of Backlinks

While there are lots of different types of backlinks, we don’t want to go too deeply as Alexa did a great job covering these here.

The ones we’re wanting to differentiate between though, that aren’t in the above list are those benefiting Local SEO, with the rest.

What you’re after are the backlinks that come with NAP citations, mirroring the details on your Google My Business.

NAP citations are your business name, address, phone number and that golden backlink back to your site.

It’s what gives Google those repeated signals that your business is in fact a local service provider of X.

Before you get started, just be sure that your Google My Business has been setup correctly.

How Can My Business Appear On Google Local Maps Result?

Getting into the “Map Pack” will be dependent on a number of factors determined by Search Engine Optimisation. Here are a few basic things you’ll need to ensure to appear on Google maps and local listings:

  1. Setup a Google My Business account and claim your business. Make sure you’re verified!
  2. Make sure that your NAP information (Name, Address and Phone Number) is always listed exactly the same as it is on your website and on Google My Business. Consistency is key!
  3. Get a few reviews under your belt on Google. Ask previous customers to leave you a review. You can also create a link that points people directly to your reviews section. This is highly powerful when embedded into your email signature.
  4. Optimise your website for the local search term you want to appear for. This could include terms like “Search Engine Optimisation Perth” or “SEO Packages Melbourne, Victoria”. Google needs to know where to place you.
  5. Begin to build backlinks and NAP citations on key local citation and web directory sites. Make sure your information is consistent with your site and your Google listing.
  6. Rinse and repeat

Continuing to build on quality content on your website will sooner or later result in high quality backlinks without you even knowing it.

It should be noted: that for any of these, at the time of writing, you do not require a paid subscription to these sites. Once you’ve gone through the below list, it might be worthwhile going through our 2018 Australian backlink list to fill in any gaps.

While some have their benefits, what we’re after are the free business listings. Remember, all we’re looking to list are four important pieces of information on your business:

  • Your Business Name
  • Your Business Address
  • Business Contact Number
  • Business Website Address (URL)

Getting to list your NAP citations as well as your website address on a quality website or directory like Yellow Pages will always benefit your ranking.

So without further delaying here are the top 10 backlinks you need to be listed on:
